Overview

The 19E Tripper at Rio Tinto's East Intercourse Island facility had reached the end of its serviceable life, creating a significant risk to operational reliability. Linkforce delivered a major upgrade that included the replacement of key tripper infrastructure, together with power, instrumentation and communications upgrades. Executed within a constrained shutdown environment, the works required detailed planning, integrated multi-disciplinary coordination and innovative work packaging to minimise operational impacts.

Service Delivery Area

  • Electrical & Instrumentation

  • Mechanical & Structural

  • Fabrication

  • Access Solutions

  • Communication Networks

  • Transport & Logistics

Value Added

  • Experienced project team with extensive sustaining capital and brownfield upgrade expertise

  • Agile execution approach that successfully managed compressed shutdown schedules, equipment delays and evolving design requirements

  • In-house fabrication capability, delivering 9 tonnes of steel fabrication to support project delivery

  • Innovative work packaging and access solutions that enabled significant electrical works to be completed outside shutdown periods, reducing schedule risk and improving shutdown efficiency

  • Dedicated scaffold design capability providing safe and efficient access solutions across restricted work fronts

  • Certified management systems aligned with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards

Outcome

Linkforce successfully installed and commissioned a new tripper trolley, MCC, cable reeler and VSD system, together with a complete upgrade of power, instrumentation and communications infrastructure. Supported by new cable management systems, field device connections and associated electrical works, the project modernised a critical ore handling asset and improved long-term operational reliability. By completing key activities outside shutdown periods and accelerating the delivery schedule, the works were completed ahead of schedule with minimal operational disruption.
